About the team
Roku’s Controllership team, led by the Chief Accounting Officer, is comprised of a diverse and talented group of professionals dedicated to ensuring financial compliance, timely close processes, accurate financial reporting and operational excellence across the finance landscape. The Tax group within the Controllership team is a collection of tax, managing all aspects of the tax landscape, including tax provision, compliance, international structure, transfer pricing, etc. We collaborate cross-functionally with many departments including Legal, FP&A, Corporate Development and the Roku executive team.
About the Role
The Senior Director, Tax role is a highly visible role across the organization. In this role, you will provide critical enterprise-wide leadership and drive our global tax strategy including tax provision, tax planning and tax compliance and work closely with the company's accounting and finance teams to support the overall financial objectives of the organization. You will play a key role in cross functional initiatives and manage and lead the global tax team.
This role will report to the Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer. We are looking for candidates in either Austin, TX or San Jose, CA.
For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $300,000 - $422,000 annually.
Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location.

Responsibilities
- Manage, develop, and mentor team members in the US and foreign locations, encouraging a collaborative team atmosphere
- Develop and lead tax strategy, assessing the tax impact of strategic initiatives, and driving tax decision-making that improves shareholder value
- Provide active support/advising leadership in strategic decision-making, due diligence, mergers/acquisitions, complex partnerships, restructuring, etc. to ensure business planning accounts for relevant tax considerations
- Lead evolution of Roku transfer pricing strategy, monitor transfer pricing policies and related documentation
- Manage worldwide GAAP tax provision, tax reserves (ASC 450) and related disclosures. Lead compliance (US Federal, US States and International), accounting for income taxes, technical research, process improvement, and risk and controls.
- Manage the collaboration with the Company’s SEC reporting team as well as maintain excellent relationships with external auditors
- Review, analyze and maintain support for valuation allowances and stock compensation impacts of US and Foreign employees
- Ensure compliance with US and international tax laws and regulations, US GAAP, SOX, and other domestic and international requirements
- Actively partner with foreign operations on local tax matters (income tax, VAT, withholding tax, etc.)
- Manage indirect tax compliance and risks, advise on employment tax
- Manage global tax audits
- Champion operational excellence through process improvement and technology transformation
- Building, maintaining, and leveraging close working relationships with internal partners, including executive management, financial reporting, accounting, treasury, legal, HR and business operations
Experience And Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of related experience, including 5+ years at a Director level working as part of a corporate tax department within a public technology company
- CPA license and Big4 experience preferred; Masters in Tax preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience building, managing, and motivating a high-performing team of tax professionals
- Effective communications skills, including the ability
