About the role

Description

The University of Chicago invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher at the rank of Instructor in the Department of History, with a focus on the history and culture of the Roman Republican and early Imperial periods. This is a position combining research and teaching responsibilities. This is a three-year non-renewable appointment, preferably beginning September 2025. The position requires a PhD in History or a related field and demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching. 

The successful candidate will teach a total of three courses per year, distributed over three quarters. Their teaching responsibilities will primarily serve the Department of History’s undergraduate sequence in the Ancient Mediterranean World, and potentially the Classics Department’s undergraduate sequence on Greek and Roman Texts, Traditions and Transformations. Remaining courses will be of the candidate’s devising, in consultation with the Department Chair.
