Associate Environmental Specialist

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for supporting Mortenson’s environmental management efforts by providing review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.

KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Implement and administer the environmental program at each work site.

1. Support project management team in developing and executing site specific environmental plans and activities
2. Participate in and contribute to project planning and environmental risk analysis
3. Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors
4. Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for environmental concerns
5. Assist with implementation of policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all environmental regulations
6. Coordinate and support environmental orientation and training programs
7. Assist with onsite best management practices for environmental management
8. Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures
9. Conduct work site environmental inspections
10. Monitor and record environmental data
11. Document and report environmental violations, non-compliance conditions, etc.
12. Assist with incident analysis and response

 

Provide resource of environmental related information

1. Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, US EPA, ASTM, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
2. Ability to research environmental issues or concerns for all project team members

 

Other duties as assigned

1. Interface with customer’s environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, insurance representatives, etc.
2. Accompany environmental, health and safety, insurance and regulatory personnel on work site tours
3. Ensure maintenance and inspection of environmental equipment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field
2. Previous related internship experience a plus
3. Current driver’s license

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the following with or without an accommodation; sitting, seeing, hearing, and utilization of a computer and office equipment. The working environment consists of indoor and climate-controlled settings.
