Dental Assisting Faculty

Regular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Executive Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.

Regular Faculty are required to serve a provisional period from the date of employment until the completion of employment under three consecutive full year regular contracts. 

The required teaching schedule is August to May. The required pay schedule is September to August. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Certified Dental Assistant Credential (Dental Assisting National Board).
• Completed Bachelor’s degree OR expectation to complete a bachelor’s degree within three years of hire date as a condition of employment.
• Current CPR certification.
• Possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Career and Technical Education Teaching Credential http://coloradostateplan.com/administrator/credentialing/.
• Demonstrated ability to work with underrepresented populations in successful efforts to close the achievement gap.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of post-secondary teaching experience.
• One year of work experience as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (Restorative).

Salary is $51,534.00 annual gross. This position will remain posted until filled.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.

Essential Duties

• Provide didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction on a variety of topics such as oral anatomy, dental science, dental charting, dental materials, dental radiography, specialties in dentistry, clinical procedures, dental office equipment operation, business office procedures, ethics and jurisprudence, infection control and safety measures, medical emergencies in the dental office, preventive dentistry, nutrition and expanded functions dental assisting in Colorado.
• Supervise and evaluate students during spring and summer internship assignments at varied clinical settings throughout Colorado Springs and the surrounding area.
• Advise students wishing to pursue a certificate or associate of applied science degree in dental assisting and maintain regular office hours.
• Participate in advisory committee meetings, dental assisting departmental meetings, divisional meetings, professional development activities, college wide committees, and student enrichment activities.
• Develop curriculum and student evaluation instruments to keep courses relevant to current trends in dentistry.
• Assist in the coordination of dental clinic activities with respect to Expanded Functions Dental Assisting courses and clinical internship sites.
