General Summary: This is a senior level position in its classification. Performs maintenance on the county roadway system, storm and drainage systems, sidewalks, and other miscellaneous related items within the guidelines of departmental rules and safety procedures. This position is responsible for operating a variety of equipment such as concrete mixers, asphalt spreaders, small excavation equipment etc.
Key responsibilities and performance standard
60% Operates pipe inspection camera(s).
10% Operates a variety of equipment such as concrete mixers and small excavation equipment.
10% Maintains tools and equipment and associated incidental work.
10% Performs paving operations, sets up traffic safety and control at work sites.
10% Assists in work site preparation.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One year of experience in roadway, storm and drainage system, and sidewalk repair and maintenance to include water, street and utility, and road construction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of techniques, equipment, and supplies used in road construction and maintenance.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and directing and controlling traffic.
- Mastery of operating and maintaining specialized equipment, tools, and machinery.
Certification:
- Ability to obtain IMSA Work Zone Safety or Flagging Certification within 12 months.
- Obtain Georgia Soil and Erosion certification 1A within 12 months of employment.
Licensing:
- Must have a valid state operator/driver’s license for the type of vehicle operated with a good driving history.
