Job Description Summary
The UHR Benefits and Retirement Specialist within University Human Resources plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive benefits guidance and support to university faculty and staff. This position is responsible for ensuring accuracy in benefits processing, providing excellent customer service, managing ongoing data reporting and reconciliation efforts, presenting information during onboarding and employee events, and collaborating with various stakeholders across the institution.State Certifications: Required to obtain Agency Benefits Certification from the Maryland Department of Budget and Management within the first 3 months of employment. Incumbent is required to obtain Retirement Coordinator Certification from the Maryland Retirement Agency within the first 1 year of employment. Certifications must be renewed regularly, as required, by the State of Maryland.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with the State of Maryland, public sector employers, or in a higher education setting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HRIS systems
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional human resources experience in the areas of benefits or retirement.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Knowledge of university health benefits, retirement, and tuition remission offerings.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to problem solve and provide advice.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
