Step Into Your Next CareerKleinfelder is seeking a Senior Wildlife Biologist/Ecologist and Project Manager with a natural science background to oversee projects and to provide leadership, mentorship and coaching to a talented team of junior staff in one of our Sacramento or Bay Area office locations.
Responsibilities also include managing and preparing concise, accurate technical documents; oversight of multi-disciplinary work on simultaneous, diverse energy and related projects; participation and oversight of the preparation of competitive proposals; and an ability to provide professional presentations.
Applicants with substantial experience with the following will be considered: coordination and management of habitat assessments, regulatory permitting, and biological compliance. Ideal candidates should possess a diverse background and understanding of the California flora, fauna, wetlands and waters, and the regulatory environment. Past experience with environmental regulatory permitting, project management and field staff supervision and development is preferred. The position will require coordination with other project managers and multidisciplinary teams, in addition to developing and monitoring project budgets and schedules.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Managing and staff projects with multidisciplinary tasks and multiple staff.
- Developing and tracking project budgets.
- Participating in Proposal Efforts, including developing scope of work and effort.
- Conducting and managing desktop and field habitat assessments of various size and producing associated analyses and deliverables.
- Preparation of Biological Resources Assessments and/or Habitat Conservation Plans.
- Federal Endangered Species Act Sections 7 and 10 permitting.
- California Endangered Species Act Section 2081 permitting.
- May manage work that includes aquatic resources (wetland) delineations and preparing permits (Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401, California Fish and Game Code Section 1600, etc.).
- Manage and staff projects for construction environmental compliance oversight.
- Desktop environmental due diligence reviews to determine botanical/biological constraints and agency regulatory authority.
- Ensure deliverables conform to client standards and expectations, comply with all applicable permits, licenses, and contract conditions.
- Participate in meetings and conference calls as requested.
- Provide oversight and mentoring of junior staff.
- Potential occasional field work.
- BS/BA Botany, Biology, Environmental Science or related degree
- A minimum of 4 - 5 years of relevant project managment work experience
- A minimum of 7 years of professional environmental consulting experience
- Strong skills in verbal communication of technical issues
- Strong technical writing and editing skills
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Experience in a supervisory / management role
- MS/MS Botany, Biology, Environmental Science or related degree
- Experience with environmental review processes (CEQA/NEPA)
- Consultation with agencies (USFS, BLM, USACE, USFWS, CDFW, RWQCB)
- Proficiency with ArcMap or other mobile geographic information system (GIS) platforms for field data collection
