TITLE: OPS Nutrition Educator
LOCATION: Naples, FL (primary) and Immokalee, FL (secondary)
Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a part time, OPS Nutrition Educator position with the Department of Health (DOH) in Collier County in the Healthy Start Program and is anticipated to work approximately 28 hours per week at the rate of $25.00 an hour. This position serves as a Nutrition Educator for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program providing direct client service for WIC program participants. WIC program services are provided in a manner consistent with State and Federal regulation DHM 150-24. This employee is required to have an annual assessment for TB, which may include a tuberculin skin test. This employee is at risk for exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Employee will be immunized in accordance with State Health Program Office Immunization Recommendations for Health Care Workers or employee provides proof of immunity for recommended immunizations.
- Provides nutrition education and counseling per Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment requirements that is appropriate and pertinent to clients assessed nutrition problems.
- Assesses all nutrition problems presented by each client, assigns correct WIC nutrition risk criteria.
- Documents assessment, counseling provided, client established goals, and food package assigned in FL-WiSE data system. Prepares individualized outcome-oriented nutrition plan of care for all clients determined as high risk (not medically high risk).
- Provides and documents appropriate referrals including, but not limited to, the Immunization program, medical referrals, family planning, smoking cessation, community food, clothing and shelter sources and other government assistance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Competent keyboard skills.
- Ability to learn FL-WiSE computer system, Department of Health software applications and use calculator.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality and interact professionally with the public.
- Ability to travel to secondary location as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a U.S. accredited university or college in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Emergency Duty-Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
