Position Summary

The Employee Relations Center of Excellence (COE) supports all of the U.S. IPG Mediabrands business units. This COE is responsible for handling and ensuring a consistent approach to performance and conduct issues is followed, tracking and analyzing trends and themes in ER cases, and educating managers and employees on performance management best practices, and updates existing and drafts new policies for Mediabrands.

The Associate Director, Employee Relations & Legal Compliance works with HR Business Partners and leaders within IPG Mediabrands U.S. to provide business-focused issue resolution in a timely, effective manner, with consistent application of company policies and procedures. This person also manages the ER metrics tracking database, including running reports and sharing insights.

Responsibilities

  • Address employee actions with consistency and efficiency across brands relating to progressive discipline, performance improvement plans, and interpretation / implementation of company policies
  • Advise HRBPs on employee-related issues and partner with managers within the organization to consult and coach through to resolution
  • Coach, educate, and up-skill managers and HRBPs on correct methodology for addressing and preventing employee/performance issues
  • Collect and analyze ER metrics to identify trends; recommend preventive strategies and long-term solutions surrounding employee issues and actions
  • Manage the ER metrics database, ensuring accuracy and providing reporting
  • Identify ER metrics trends and recommend preventive strategies and long-term solutions surrounding employee issues and actions
  • Oversee Reductions in Force (RIFs), including conducting risk analysis and creating communications and logistics plans
  • Ensure appropriate ER Case documentation is uploaded into HR system for compliance and HR communication purposes
  • In partnership with ER team, compile and present semi-annual ER Data presentation for HR Leads
  • Identify and develop efficiencies and/or templates where needed relating to employee relations and policies
  • Ensure strong partnership with IPG Legal team, involving them as appropriate
  • Research and explore new policies for company to consider; project manage implementation leading to successful launch

 

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years in HR and or Employment Law
  • HR Generalist background or other experience handling Employee Relations issues with positive outcomes
  • Research ability to maintain knowledge of all current legislation
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful – able to implement things that may not have been done before
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to explain complex topics in a manner people can easily understand
  • Active listener; ability to interpret to both verbal and nonverbal communications
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients; a collaborative, team-player mind-set is essential for success
  • Ability to work autonomously, with impeccable prioritization skills and time management
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to build credibility through results
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Strong comfort with data and demonstrated working knowledge of Excel
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working in a matrix environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel prowess
  • Strong technical aptitude for online systems
