Description of Work

The Cook is a skilled professional responsible for preparing nutritious meals for residents at O'Berry Center. This position involves preparing food in accordance with approved menus and portion quantities. The Cook must demonstrate proficiency in coordinating cooking times to ensure all meal components are served on schedule. Work is routinely reviewed by a supervisor to ensure compliance with food safety standards and effective minimization of food waste.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $31,200 - $48,810

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Basic knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.

• Basic knowledge of the standard tools, methods, and practices utilized to maintain food safety.

• Considerable knowledge of the uses and adaptabilities of the various pieces of equipment including kettles, convection ovens, convection steamers, braising pans, mixer, food processors, slicers and deep fryers.

• Ability to properly alter food and beverage consistency such as chopped, ground and pureed.

• Basic knowledge and ability to maintain high standards of sanitation as outlined in the NC Food Code.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Work Hours: 7:00am - 6:00pm (4 days per week at 10 hours per day).
