Sr. Director, T Cell Immunology, Infectious Disease
ModernaAbout the role
The Role:
The Infectious Disease team at Moderna is looking for a highly enthusiastic and talented immunologist with expertise in T cell immunology, cellular phenotyping, mucosal immunology, and epitope mapping. Additional experience in imaging, clonal repertoire analysis, single cell sequencing, antigen design, T cell development, cytotoxic mechanisms, tolerance, Th skewing, and exhaustion/reversal would be of great additional interest. The individual will oversee a dynamic team of cellular immunologists at all levels aimed at understanding the current potential of the platform to leverage cellular immunity as well as to develop a robust program to explore future opportunities to fully harness the power of the cellular immune response. The individual will incorporate and develop state of the art, cutting edge technological strategies to expand our understanding and opportunity to tune T cell help, drive cytotoxicity, explore non-canonical T cell functions, shape cellular immune interactions and program antigen-presentation. The individual will work with a team of virologists, microbiologists, biochemists, computational biologists, immunologists to shape the host: pathogen interaction to improve mRNA therapeutic strategies. The ability to effectively communicate across internal multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners is required. Applicants should be outstanding scientists, have already led teams of immunologists, possess collaborative team spirit, be an excellent communicator, and should be excited to work with cutting edge mRNA technology in the advancement of vaccines and therapeutics against infectious disease threats.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Lead a team of immunologists focused on exploring the role of mRNA/LNP vaccine programming of cellular immunity.
Develop novel technologies to explore the role of T cell responses in vaccine mediated protective immunity.
Develop new approaches to wholistically evaluate the cellular immune response following vaccination to understand the impact and opportunities to shape the cellular immune response.
Drive strong collaborative efforts to support mRNA vaccine and therapeutic virology and bacteriology programs.
Drive technological collaborations and support for other therapeutic areas.
Shepherd the development of automated pipelines and immune assays to support cellular immune investigation across therapeutic areas.
Bring a passion for cellular immunology and novel-cutting edge tools to drive enhanced surveillance, control, and clearance of disease.
Drive the development and optimization of preclinical models for the evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies.
Inspire the incorporation of novel sequencing, imaging, and proteomic tools to understand and exploit cellular immune activity.
Support and execute experiments within a cross-functional team.
Effectively communicate project goals, timelines, progress, and results across functional groups
Interpret, summarize, and present experimental data and results at group meetings, project meetings, and department meeting.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
PhD or equivalent with 10-15 years’ experience or equivalent industry experience
Solid immunology background, with experience in flow cytometry, single cell sequencing, and multi-OMIC analysis
Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization
Candidate will be curious in exploring new paths for drug discovery, bold in proposing creative experimental designs and ideas. Will work collaboratively with multifunctional teams and will be relentless in pursuing successful outcomes
