Walmart Global Tech is seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Staff Data Scientist to lead the development and deployment of large-scale AI algorithms within our Transportation Applied AI team. As a science tech lead, you will drive innovation, cost optimization, and data-driven automation for Walmart's transportation system using deep reinforcement learning, operations research, and machine learning.
About Team:
The Transportation Applied AI team is a highly motivated group of AI scientists and machine learning engineers dedicated to solving sophisticated and high-impact problems that power Walmart’s transportation network end-to-end from vendors to stores. We leverage advanced algorithms in operations research, deep reinforcement learning, economics (market design), and machine learning to tackle challenging problems like Inbound/Outbound routing, truck load optimization, freight pricing and matching, and workload dispatching.
What you'll do:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex AI models using state-of-the-art algorithms, with the consideration of optimality and computational complexity.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand transportation business objectives, requirements, and constraints.
- Mentor and guide other data scientists in the team.
- Research and explore the latest trends in machine learning and optimization techniques to develop solutions for complex business problems.
- Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure engineering excellence.
What you'll bring:
- Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, Machine Learning, AI, or other quantitative fields with 4+ years of experience; or Master's degree in the same domains with 7+ years of experience post-grad school.
- Deep knowledge in deep reinforcement learning, stochastic optimization, statistics, and machine learning.
- Hands-on development experience with the ability to write production code in object-oriented languages like Java, C++, or Python.
- Proven track record of building and deploying algorithms/models in production in a real-world setting.
- Experience with large-scale data systems (Spark/Hive) and cloud computing (GCP/Azure).
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects from conception to completion in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.
- Experience in multi-agent systems is plus.
- Experience in forecasting, ranking algorithms, causal ML and experimentation is a plus.
- Knowledge of supply chain and transportation operation is a plus.
