WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:
On-Site: This role is on-site five days a week at our San Diego (Del Mar) office due to the nature of the work involved.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
A Sr Electrical Engineer contributes to the design, development, testing, and documentation of electronic components and circuits in the Company’s medical devices and associated test systems. This individual contributes to project teams to define hardware requirements, design and implement hardware solutions. Electrical Engineers also work cross-functionally with many departments, including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and others.
An Sr. Electrical Engineer at Tandem also:
- Leads and participates in the research and development of electronic components, printed circuit boards (PCBA), and electrical systems for the Company’s medical devices and associated test systems, utilizing knowledge of electronics theory as well as that gained through experience in electronics design.
- Leads and participates in planning, designing, development, testing, and design reviews of electronic and electrical systems for the Company’s medical devices and associated test systems, including PCBAs, batteries, LCD displays, among other components.
- Participates in determining design approaches and parameters.
- Experienced in PCB design using electronic CAD design software (such as Altium Designer).
- Utilizes test equipment to conduct experimental tests, evaluate electronic designs, and perform design verification. Creates test reports to document results. Selects components and equipment, including detailed analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Develops technical procedures and associated work instruction for R&D and other departments
- Contributes to the review of vendor capability to support development projects.
- Participates in the evaluation of the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production.
- Embraces the Design Control process by participating in design reviews and maintaining design history files.
- Supports other departments as needed and considers project-wide impacts in decision making.
- Confirms completion of required training plan before assuming job responsibilities.
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
- Advanced coursework/Masters in related field desirable.
- 5+ years of experience in the field including detailed design, design testing, and documentation of medical device electronics, including experience from conceptual design through market release.
- Integration experience in a manufacturing environment to assist with the transfer of assembly, testing, etc. methodology to manufacturing.
- Experience coordinating activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure the delivery of supplies or services needed to meet project timelines.
- Proficient with circuit theory, analysis and troubleshooting of analog and digital design, including power supply design and embedded systems.
- Experienced in PCBA design with electronic CAD software, such as Altium Designer or equivalent.
- Has working knowledge of federal and other regulations, e.g., QSRs, ISO 14971, IEC 60601 series, etc.
- Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Familiarity with the design control process, able to lead design reviews and contribute to and maintain design history files.
