CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Horn Entrepreneurship serves as the University of Delaware's creative engine for entrepreneurship education and advancement. Built and actively supported by successful entrepreneurs and thought leaders, Horn Entrepreneurship empowers aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs as they pursue new ideas for a better world. Under the limited direction of the Associate Director, Partnerships and Outreach, the Senior Manager, External Engagement, leads the Horn Entrepreneurships alumni community strategic project and works in collaboration with program leads for Horn Entrepreneurships' extensive youth, enrichment, academic, venture support, and commercialization offerings. This includes directing a portfolio of programming that includes the 17&43 Awards, Alumni Council, and Free Lunch Friday. The Senior Manager also works with representatives from the Office of Development to facilitate the engagement of prospective donors. As part of the Horn Entrepreneurship team, the Senior Manager works in a fast-paced, purpose-driven, and dynamic environment. The Senior Manager plays a critical role in facilitating and monitoring both inbound and proactive engagement of alumni, seasoned entrepreneurs, business leaders, and others from the broader community in Horn Entrepreneurship offerings. Through these activities, the Senior Manager helps to enhance the positive impact of Horn's educational programs on student learning.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of all Horn Entrepreneurship offerings and their specific opportunities for external engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Horn Director and other team members to establish external engagement objectives and monitor and report key results.

In-Bound Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for UD alumni and others who express interest in learning more about Horn Entrepreneurship and its many opportunities for external engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Horn Director, representatives from the Office of Development, and program leads to direct the process of engaging prospects in Horn offerings (based on the perceived alignment between a given prospect's interests and capacities and the requirements/ needs associated with specific engagement opportunities).

External (Proactive) Engagement:

  • Represent Horn Entrepreneurship at community and regional events that offer opportunities for networking and promoting opportunities for external engagement in Horn offerings.
  • Collaborate with program leads to determine their needs for external engagement and work with the Marketing Manager and other members of the Horn team to proactively target potential prospects.

Community Building, Event Planning, and Execution:

  • Play the lead role in managing Horn Entrepreneurships alumni community strategic project, which includes the Blue Hen 17 & 43 Awards, Siegfried Award for Entrepreneurial Leadership, Horn Alumni Council, alumni events (Alumni weekend & Homecoming), I Heart UD Day, and Free Lunch Friday offerings.

Relationship Management and Development:

  • Collaborate with the Horn Director to establish relationship management strategies and priorities involving high-impact alumni and community members, including members of the Horn Entrepreneurships National Advisory Board. Directly steward high-value relationships with major giving prospects.
  • Collaborate with representatives from the Office of Development, especially the Director of Development for Entrepreneurship Initiatives, to engage, qualify, cultivate, and solicit gifts. This includes leading efforts to identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from a portfolio of leadership, DDS-level, and recent alumni prospects.
  • Maintain records of external engagement and contact reports in electronic databases (Advance and Salesforce).
  • Oversee the gift acknowledgement process, including receiving gift notifications, creating thank you cards, and mailing acknowledgements to donors. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, entrepreneurship, business, sales, education, or a related field and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Established track record of donor engagement, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Ability to utilize customer relationship management software. Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and re-priori
