JOB SUMMARY:

Pursuant to Act No. 1965-497, the Jefferson County General Retirement System Pension Board is charged with the general administration and responsibility for the proper operation of the retirement system. The Pension Board is comprised of five members. Member Number Three of the Pension Board is required to be appointed by the Personnel Board of Jefferson County. This position serves a three-year appointment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The Pension Board Members are not paid for their service and meet on a monthly basis. This position is not part of the classified service.

MINIMUIM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
• Must have at least 10 years professional financial experience (e.g., benefit plans, actuarial, investments, etc.).
• Must be willing to serve a three-year term without compensation.
• Must be willing to take an oath of office administered by a Jefferson County Judge.

Pursuant to Act No. 1965-497, the Jefferson County General Retirement System Pension Board is charged with the general administration and responsibility for the proper operation of the retirement system.  Duties include staying abreast of relevant Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements (e.g., evaluating/approving audit and actuary reports). Approving Pension Board annual budget and other material business decisions, performing evaluations for various staff and consultants (e.g., Executive Director, Investment Asset Manager, Performance Manager) and handling relevant staffing issues as necessary. Pension Board Members also participate in the hiring/termination of various staff and consultants (e.g., Executive Director, Investment Asset Manager, Performance Manager), assist in developing employee-related guidelines (i.e., Employee Handbook), collaborate with attorneys and consultants to address various issues (e.g., development of investment policies, determinations regarding Pension Law, etc.), and respond to various Pension Board-related correspondence. Pension Board Members regularly attend monthly meetings of the Pension Board (including the Annual Meeting of Members) and “special-called” (only one in last three years) meetings as necessary.
