In this exciting and fast-paced role you will be responsible for design, implementation and support of the Pearson VUE cloud infrastructure in Azure. You will work closely within the Development and Operations organizations to support the design, automation, and deployments of applications and infrastructure.
You should have technical experience in building infrastructure and applications for scalability, resiliency, availability, and recovery. A key portion of your job will be to help move from a traditional infrastructure deployment model to an infrastructure as code model with automation and monitoring via DevOps.
You should have excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to work across teams to create optimal business solutions.
Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities:
- Align cloud infrastructure strategies with business objectives, emphasizing cloud migrations.
- Lead infrastructure migration methodologies, including mass application movements to the cloud.
- Design, implement, and support infrastructure as code for efficient operations.
- Research and prototype new cloud technologies to optimize costs and enhance performance.
- Evaluate and compare cloud native PaaS with traditional cloud-enabled infrastructure.
- Mentor staff on cloud computing best practices to drive widespread cloud adoption.
- Design Azure-focused cloud infrastructure following industry best practices.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure quality assurance through testing of team members' work.
- Actively participate in agile activities, including daily standups, backlog refinement, iteration planning, and retrospectives.
- Contribute to the team's backlog by creating stories and addressing defects promptly.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring timely and effective completion.
- Participate in on-call rotation, approximately once every 6 weeks.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with 5+ years of software development experience, specializing in enterprise applications, solution design, and technical architecture.
- Over 3 years of expertise in architecting Azure-based cloud computing services, with a focus on delivering end-to-end cloud infrastructure architectures.
- 2+ years of programming experience in languages such as Java and C#.
- In-depth understanding of cloud and infrastructure components, covering server, storage, data, and applications, enabling the creation of comprehensive cloud infrastructure designs.
- Proven track record in automating cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible.
- Proficient in configuring, automating, and managing Windows and Linux-based operating systems.
- Skilled in shell scripting languages, including PowerShell, Python, and Bash.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Quick and efficient learner of new technologies.
- Strong technical analysis and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Proficient in container technologies like Docker, utilizing build automation tools such as Packer. Expertise in constructing and managing continuous integration and delivery pipelines through tools like Jenkins or Team City. Skilled in designing resilient systems using practices such as Blue/Green or Rolling Deployments.
- Demonstrated experience in a managed Kubernetes implementation, including proficiency with KubeSpray, EKS, and KOPS. Well-versed in utilizing monitoring and analytical tools such as Splunk and New Relic, with a strong background in certificate management (client certificates, server certificates, certificate authorities, etc.).
- Extensive familiarity with cloud-based disaster recovery and high-availability system development. Adept in infrastructure management, including firewalls, load balancers, AD, DNS, and networking. Exposure to Agile methodologies and commitment to DevSecOps practices using tools like Cloudvisory and Tigera.
- Proficient in DNS management, continuous infrastructure testing, and utilizing GIT-based Source Control Systems. Additionally, skilled in working with F5 Big IP Load Balancer for effective infrastructure management.
