Role Summary

The Engineering Specialist focuses on providing all Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) personnel with necessary information and instructions to perform their duties and responsibilities with a high degree of safety at Alaska Airlines (AS).

Key Duties

• Authors, revises, and publishes documentation that provides all Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) personnel with necessary information and instructions.
• Publishes documentation that adheres to applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)s, Department of Defense (DoD) standards, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Laws and Regulations, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regulations, Air Transport Association (ATA) Specifications.
• Focuses on the preparation of procedures for processing technical data through the various stages of development and publication.
• Provides input on program requirements and procedures based on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines for airworthiness and compliance.
• Communicates and coordinates with FAA as necessary and facilitates resolution of audit findings for the department.
• Maintains compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) and Alaska safety policies and procedures, as well as federal regulations, by reporting any safety hazard or potential hazard.
• Stay abreast of current developments in the airline industry and related fields by attends training classes, workshops, and seminars.
• Maintains collegial relationships with personnel of other airlines for the exchange of information and experience in matters of mutual interest.
• Leads by example by including SMS principles in daily work habits and remaining current on SMS training requirements.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

• 2 years of experience in technical writing, publication, or other related area.
• Bachelor’s degree with a focus in aviation safety or a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
• Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
• Ability to confidently lead weekly meetings which include members from the FAA and company managers or directors.
• Strong analytical and complex problem-solving ability, particularly in identifying issues and trends.
• Ability to meet assigned project deadlines with self-directed decision making confidence.
• Detail-oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Acrobat, Framemaker, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, etc.).
• Proficiency with HTML/XML languages.

 

Preferred

• Comply365 or Boeing Toolbox experience.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review the SIDA Badge Requirements document for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.

Starting Rate

Salary Range

$76,400 -- $114,600 / year

Bonus

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
