The opportunity
The Cybersecurity Media Personality creates high-quality, authoritative content for technology buyers and related professionals for TechnologyAdvice’s security-focused websites, including but not limited to eSecurity Planet and TechRepublic. They serve as a subject matter expert and influencers through media such as internal videos and external interviews.
The media personality has a minimum of 3–5 years of experience in IT security topics (including network and cloud security), knows the subject inside and out, is able to provide the best answers to questions about their topic, and is comfortable speaking on video and writing articles. Previous speaking and writing experience is required.
This role reports to the Associate Director of Content for the Enterprise IT Group of websites.
What you'll do
- Create engaging internal and external video content that serves the audience, including writing video scripts
- Attend external interviews, webinars, and other media opportunities
- Provide quotes solicited by journalists
- Attend relevant meetings (department, group, topic team) and is an active participant
- Work with SEO/marketing and business development teams to connect their work with the content
- Work closely with our WordPress Specialist, Graphic Designer, product development team, or other available resources when necessary
- Regularly assess topic areas to determine what needs to be upgraded vs. what needs to be written, and brings these ideas to the sites’ Managing Editors and SEO Analysts
- Review article synopses and creates or modifies outlines based on keyword research
- Write one publishable first draft or equivalent work each week after the first 90 days of employment. Equivalent work is defined as being part of the production of bigger content projects such as ebooks and how-to series projects, external expertise requests, or other approved content upgrade strategy
- Consistently meets deadlines with articles and social media of the highest quality
- Create and use rubrics to evaluate solutions to provide readers with unbiased best answers in bottom-of-funnel content such as buyer’s guides
- Create copy that can be used in supplemental content elements such as infographics, quizzes, calculators, and pop-ups
- Attend partner demos and is an active participant
- Understand how each piece of content fits within the buyer journey
- Know competitors and offers suggestions on how we can increase our content’s competitive advantage from an editorial perspective
- Proactively manage their own content calendars based on established topic team runway strategies and priorities with little oversight by the topic team Managing Editor or Associate Director of Content
- Know the needs of the reader inside and out and understands the latest trends, products, resource needs, and gaps in competitor offerings
- Identify content in the topic area that might yield links from other high-quality sites and works in ways to make articles in the existing runway more citable or engaging
- Analyze performance data related to published content
- Regularly assesses topic-level competitiveness from an editorial perspective and provides proactive summaries of findings and recommendations to designated Managing Editor or Associate Director of Content
Who you are
- 3–5 years minimum experience working in cybersecurity (various capacities of work in that area of expertise are fine)
- Experience speaking to a live audience and/or an online business audience
- Has an understanding of how to best serve our cybersecurity audience
- Collaborative and enjoy working with multiple team members
