The Boeing Company is seeking a Heat Treat Furnace and Induction Operator to join our Processing team supporting Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Portland, OR.
In this thrilling role you will operate vacuum furnaces, adjust furnace run time, and document test sequences and procedures used in assembly and processing of parts. Position Responsibilities
Operate vacuum furnaces, endothermic furnaces, tempering ovens, and induction equipment to heat treat various metals that are sensitive to atmospheric contamination at elevated temperatures. (i.e. Autstenitize, carburize, precipitation harden, anneal, normalize, temper and cryogenic treatment)
Equipment operation includes, adjusting furnace run time, temperature, atmosphere, quenching, operation of vacuum diffusion pumps, induction set up (coil, quench ring, and holder installation, recipe selection).
Document test sequences and procedures used in assembly and processing of parts.
Perform hardness tests to determine proper heating and quenching.
Prepare materials for heat treatment and post heat treatment by racking/stacking (un-racking) parts in/on baskets/grids.
When procedures have not been previously established, determine the time, temperature, quenching medium, and sequence of operations necessary to harden, case harden, carburize, draw/temper, normalize, anneal, and otherwise heat treat components based on the material and required post-heat treatment properties using shop orders, blueprints, documents, specifications, advanced information, sketches, etc.
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections routine preventative work to maintain functionality and cleanliness of equipment.
Report any inspection findings or malfunctions to maintenance and supervisors.
Ensure certification requirements of equipment are up to date. Coordinate with calibration services to provide equipment down time necessary for their team to test and maintain certification compliance.
Assist and work with other employees engaged in the heat treatment (i.e. train, provide required heat treatment services to other departments.)
Collaborate with Engineering to develop new processes and optimize the capability of heat treatment equipment.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Basic Computer skills.
Basic Mathematic skills (Eg. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc.).
Able to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds, push pull using up to 45 pounds of force and reach overhead up to 6 hours per day.
1+ years experience use of hand tools. (Eg. open/closed ended wrench, ratchet, torque wrench, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
1+ years experience do you have monitoring vacuum furnaces and program control panels to adjust heat treat oven to proper temperatures and cycles for required specifications?
