OVERVIEW

This position is located in the National Air and Space Museum (NASM), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The NASM is a center for research into the history and science of aviation and spaceflight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics. Over 9 million people per year visit the NASM in the National Mall Building and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (UHC) in Chantilly, Virginia. The Museum is comprised of six major departments headed by an executive team. There are approximately 280 full-time employees and 90 part-time employees. The annual operating budget is approximately 35 million dollars, plus an additional $250 million being raised to support Transformation efforts to reimagine all display and common areas in the National Air and Space Museum in the National Mall Building. The incumbent serves as Parking Operations Manager and is responsible for managing parking operations for the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (UHC), National Air & Space Museum (NASM). Work performed by the incumbent exceeds general administrative duties and more related to program operations given that the facility requires funding, maintenance, planning, auditing, and resource management to maintain operation. This facility allows for visitors to arrive in a location that is near the UHC and park their vehicle or other mode of transportation. The parking facility utilizes current and developing technologies to track visitor numbers, automate entry and access points, record financial transactions and receipts, and manage vehicle placement/movements.  

The work effects efficiency and responsiveness in parking operations allowing for visitors and personnel to easily and safely visit the UHC to view exhibits and artifacts that preserve the nation’s history of space flight and aeronautics. The position serves as a first responder to issues with facilities equipment, safety, and security; customer complaints; processing of financial receipts; and projects that improve the facilities infrastructure.
