EquipmentShare is hiring a collaborative and results driven Director of Safety to design, lead and scale our company’s safety strategy, while fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.

The Director of Safety is a key leadership role that promotes the success of our branch employees and growing business operations, while effectively managing safety programs, regional safety teams and effective business partnerships across the company. This leader will be responsible for overseeing nationwide safety protocols and partnerships, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. EquipmentShare is the fastest-growing, independently owned construction equipment rental company in the country. This US based role offers flexibility in most remote locations and/or at our HQ in Columbia, MO. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive national safety strategy aligned to EquipmentShare’s company's goals and industry best practices. Provide collaborative leadership to the regional safety and field operations teams, fostering a safety-first culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure company's rental, transportation, retail and corporate operations consistently comply with all relevant standards of federal, state, and local safety regulations. Collaborate with legal and regulatory affairs teams to address and mitigate potential compliance risks.
  • Safety Program Development: Design and implement effective safety programs, policies, and procedures tailored to the unique needs of EquipmentShare’s fast paced rental operations and growing network. Evaluate and refine existing safety initiatives to ensure ongoing effectiveness. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk ensuring a safe and healthful working environment.
  • Training and Education: Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures, conduct safety inspections, and train employees on safety procedures. Oversee the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees at all levels. Integrate safety training into onboarding processes and ongoing standard work to promote a strong safety culture at EquipmentShare. 
  • Risk Assessment and Management: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and implement proactive measures to mitigate risks. Work closely with project management teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Incident Response and Investigation: Develop and implement protocols for prompt and thorough investigation of safety incidents. Collaborate with relevant departments to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of safety programs. Regularly report on safety performance to executive leadership, recommending adjustments as needed. Responsible for working with Safety leaders to develop annual strategic safety performance and targets.

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant certifications is a plus.
  • 10+ years experience leading and developing safety teams.Proven experience in national, multi-site safety management, preferably in the heavy equipment or construction industry.
