Job Functions:
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) participates in CREATE therapeutic programming within the therapeutic afterschool and preschool environments serving homeless children and families in our onsite housing programs.
The BCBA’s goal on each team is to design, implement, and monitor behavioral strategies for the entire program using Applied Behavior Analysis techniques and create behavior plans for identified children to facilitate a calm and nurturing environment for all children. They will be responsible for training and supervising Registered Behavior Technicians and Behavior Technicians to implement behavior strategies at all sites. The BCBA will train program staff and natural supports (including family members and teachers) on behavior interventions.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Examines the function of behavior, offering caregivers and staff tools that promote pro-social skill development and positive interactions.
- Supervises and trains the Registered Behavior Technicians and Behavior Technicians to implement all behavior strategies necessary for the proper functioning of the program. May supervise ABA interns as needed.
- Creates behavior plans for any child who needs one and will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the child’s individual behavior plan and training the staff and natural supports on the plan and techniques it requires to be successful.
- Utilizes trauma-informed behavior principles paired with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and tools to help explain the etiology of behavior, decreasing reactivity of the staff or caregiver and helping to create an environment of empathy and attunement.
- Promotes positive relationships and pro-social skill building in a group setting for children.
- Provides parents with information about implementing their child’s behavior plan/strategy at home and works with children to resolve trauma-induced behaviors in conjunction with the Therapeutic Supervisor.
- Implements behavior strategies for the group with staff support, including training sessions, overall written procedures, informal procedures or protocols, and a crisis intervention plan, if any.
- Responsible for directing the recreational and leisure skills of the team with whom they work as needed. Will provide direction and encouragement to the individual they are serving in staying active, implementing skill development, social skills, and other available training opportunities.
- Responsible for training staff in protocols and procedures, acquisition and replacement skills, and monitoring and training in approved crisis techniques under the direction and supervision of the Director of Children’s Programs.
- Responsible for providing feedback and modeling of appropriate techniques, regarding any behavioral plans and approved procedures, policies, and protocols regarding behavioral treatment to the individuals served.
- Must display original thinking and creativity; meet challenges with resourcefulness; generate suggestions for improving work and develop innovative approaches and ideas.
- Observes staff/natural supports as they implement techniques/skills/procedures, providing comprehensive feedback that includes both positive feedback and identifying areas of improvement.
- Demonstrates to staff/natural supports appropriate implementation of these techniques/skills/procedures, affording staff/natural supports a second opportunity to implement them accurately, followed by further positive feedback.
- Will step in as Supervisor on sight as needed.
Documentation Requirements:
- Will monitor and train the supports for the client (such as family members and teachers) in proper documentation.
- Will oversee documentation of services provided. These notes are a description of the services provided, focused primarily on training, implementation of the behavioral plan, and integration and monitoring of the other supports.
