Job Summary
The Maintenance Specialist plays a key role in planning, scheduling, and coordinating both routine and outage-related maintenance activities for Plant McDonough’s combined-cycle units. This position is responsible for developing detailed work plans, optimizing maintenance schedules, and supporting outage execution to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
This role partners closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contract teams to deliver high-quality maintenance execution. The Maintenance Specialist also contributes to long-term maintenance strategies, including condition-based maintenance (CBM) initiatives, and provides contract coordination support. Job Requirements
- Proven experience in power plant operations and maintenance activities is preferred.
- Strong organizational, planning, and administrative capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Working knowledge of contract administration and vendor coordination.
- Ability to effectively represent the company when interfacing with external contractors and suppliers.
- Understanding of financial principles, including budgeting and cost control.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions in critical situations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate routine and outage maintenance activities for combined-cycle generating units.
- Develop comprehensive daily and weekly work plans to support maintenance execution.
- Provide planning and coordination support during unit outages to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective completion.
- Partner with operations and maintenance teams by estimating, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance work on plant equipment.
- Support the development and execution of maintenance strategies, including condition-based maintenance (CBM) programs.
- Serve as the contract coordinator for maintenance-related work, ensuring contractor compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Track and monitor maintenance progress to ensure work is completed on schedule and properly documented.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the plant’s maintenance management system (e.g., work orders, schedules, reports).
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within maintenance planning and execution processes.
- Provide backup support to other planners and contract support roles as needed to meet plant and outage demands.
- Ensure all activities align with Southern Company’s safety, environmental, and operational excellence standards.
