Maintenance Assistants are responsible for:
- Performs variety of minor or routine plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or mechanical repairs and installations.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance tasks, and checks and replaces light bulbs. Completes routine grounds and vehicle maintenance.
- Receives and stores maintenance and cleaning supplies.
- Receives work orders and gathers parts and supplies for expected installation or repair. Inspects requested work to determine if repair or installation can be accomplished independently, or if mechanic or supervisor should be notified.
- Checks and replaces incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs in lamps, lighting fixtures, and exit signs.
- Completes routine electrical work such as installing outlets and switches, replacing fuses and wiring connections. Uses modular or pin connections to complete installations of telephones, fax machines, computers, and so forth.
- Assists mechanic or contractors in complex or large projects by delivering materials to work site, holding and passing tools, cutting materials to specifications, attaching fixtures, and so forth, as directed. Uses small hand and power tools, or table saw as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to follow instructions, read work orders, and complete work logs with basic knowledge of reading and mathematics at a level normally acquired through completion of high school or a GED equivalent.
- Ability to perform basic repairs, installation and maintenance at a level normally acquired through related training or experience lasting up to one year.
- Approximately one to three months on-the-job experience necessary in order to become familiar with routine maintenance tasks, and acquire knowledge of equipment locations and operations.
- Valid local driver’s license, and at least 25 years of age. Must be able to qualify for coverage under Gateway’s corporate automobile insurance policy.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand up to two or more hours at a time.
- Ability to stoop and bend, ability to reach and grab with arms and hands, and manual dexterity to operate small hand and power tools with precision.
