Director Injection Molding Engineer
Position Overview:
The Director Injection Molding Engineer is responsible for all aspects of mold supplier performance by ensuring that injection molded components used in commercial environment are robust, harmonized & scalable utilizing best technologies, process capable, validated per design control and compliant with regulatory requirements. The development and execution of molding capital strategy including all NPD, Capacity and Refurbishment projects. Lead the team responsible for all molding related projects for the Ostomy Care (OC), Continence Care (CCC), Advanced Wound Care (AWC) and Infusion Care (IC) business units; overseeing the planning, design and execution while ensuring allocation of resources and budgets, including but not limited to the definition of project scope, programming and estimation of costs, supervision of projects and management of contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Injection Mold Tool Strategy Development:
- Lead and accountable of transfer tooling responsibility project from CvT to molde suppliers, for all business units.
- Collaborate with procurement to define injection mold tool strategies before molding project timelines are set.
- Conduct capacity assessments to identify potential bottlenecks at mold suppliers and impacts on production planning.
- Participate cross-functionally (Engineering, Quality, Validations, Regulatory Affairs, and Operations) and across manufacturing sites to support strategies including capacity, supplier sourcing, logistics, equipment, and processes to meet key business goals for all business units.
- Technical Leadership:
- Provide senior-level guidance on injection molding strategies for life cycle management products.
- Accountable for assessing the technical performance of suppliers via the molding team, in the manufacturing of injection molded components including new, repaired and/or transferred molds, identify gaps and recommend solutions.
- Adhere to the Molding “Playbook” to drive tooling fabrication, process optimization using scientific injection molding principles, validation, and production release. Includes process improvement opportunities and innovation on commercial products.
- Oversees the process of the design review and build of moulds at tool vendors, FAT’s, DOE’s, dimensional analysis, define and agree any tool correction, and validation of mould.
- Standardisation:
- Champion standardisation across processes and tool projects to reduce complexity and support scalability for all business units.
- Risk Mitigation:
- Conduct assessments to evaluate process capabilities.
- Identify and highlight potential challenges during tool design/development to project teams during planning.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Lead the molding team on technical reviews and provide strategic input to project plans, ensuring manufacturing readiness.
- Mentorship and Development:
- Mentors and develops molding engineering teams.
- Promote knowledge sharing to enhance team capabilities.
Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrated capability to lead highly technical teams.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in injections molding and tools.
- Ability to build good working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset, with bias toward structured decision-making.
