This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Lansing Stamping Locations.

The Role

The Plant Manager supports safe, efficient, and people-focused operations at Lansing Regional Stamping and Lansing Grand River Stamping, GM manufacturing stamping sites with a unionized workforce. This role partners closely with plant leadership, operations, quality, maintenance, safety, HR/LR, and union leadership to deliver daily performance and continuous improvement across the plant.

The Plant Manager helps translate plant objectives into day-to-day execution by leading cross-shift communication, monitoring performance, resolving operational issues, coaching frontline leaders, and reinforcing standardized work, safety systems, and accountability.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead daily plant execution by reviewing production, responsiveness, quality, staffing, and operational issues, budgets and by driving follow-up actions with the appropriate teams.
  • Lead by teaching and promoting GMS operating requirements, serving as the principal lead for regional GMS activities to ensure alignment and effectiveness.
  • Champion a strong safety culture through floor presence, incident review, safety observation activity, and support of Workplace Safety System processes.
  • Coach and develop salaried and represented leaders, including shift leaders, group leaders, team leaders, and other frontline leaders, to strengthen accountability, capability, and engagement.
  • Support quality performance by monitoring plant quality systems, reviewing escalations, driving fast-response problem-solving, and strengthening assembly plant customer partnerships to ensure aligned expectations, rapid issue resolution, and sustained quality improvement.
  • Help manage cost and resource utilization through purchasing approvals, overtime planning, staffing reviews, productivity discussions, and budget-related routines.
  • Partner with HR/LR and union leadership to address employee relations matters, workforce issues, and plant labor topics in a timely and constructive way.
  • Reinforce standardized work, layered accountability, and continuous improvement practices consistent with GM manufacturing expectations.
  • Represent plant leadership in meetings, reviews, and escalation forums, and provide backup leadership support as needed.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience as a Manufacturing People Leader is also essential.
  • Progressive leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial operations, preferably in a high-volume, unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across safety, people, quality, responsiveness, and cost priorities in a complex plant setting.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills, with the ability to lead through changing priorities and operational disruption.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems, continuous improvement methods, and plant business processes.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in Stamping, Body and/or Paint, Tool & Die.
  • Multi-plant experience.
  • Global Surface Quality Evaluation (GSQE) experience.
  • Experience working directly with represented workforces and union partners.
