Duke Health is seeking a talented and collaborative Staff Interior Designer to support the planning, design, and implementation of interior environments across our hospitals, clinics, research, educational, and administrative facilities. This role combines creativity, technical expertise, and healthcare design principles to create spaces that are functional, aesthetically pleasing, safe, and supportive of patient healing, staff efficiency, and exceptional care delivery.
Work Arrangement – On-site
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERNECES
Healthcare, research, higher education, or commercial interiors experience preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education - Work requires a Bachelor's degree and eligibility for NCIDQ certification.
Experience - Work requires at least three (3) years of related experience in Interior Design, to include at least one (1) year of experience in a commercial setting.
One (1) year of experience as a buyer or purchaser of commercial furnishings may be substituted for one of the two (2) years of required experience.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

What You'll Do
- Plan and design interior environments for healthcare, research, educational, and administrative facilities throughout Duke Health.
- Meet with customers and stakeholders to assess needs and develop practical, functional, and visually appealing design solutions.
- Coordinate design activities with project managers, architects, contractors, consultants, furniture vendors, maintenance staff, and end users.
- Develop interior design concepts, finish selections, furniture specifications, material palettes, and construction documentation.
- Utilize evidence-based design principles to support patient experience, employee well-being, safety, infection prevention, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
- Select furniture, finishes, and materials that balance aesthetics, durability, maintainability, and healthcare performance requirements.
- Maintain and uphold interior finish standards.
- Prepare project presentations and communicate recommendations to leadership.
- Develop project budgeting, furniture procurement, and cost estimating.
- Coordinate installations and verify quality.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,026.00 to USD $93,636.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
