About the ClientA well-established luxury design firm based in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood, founded in 2015. While the company has built its reputation in the luxury design industry, this role will specifically support one of the co-owners who leads a separate investment initiative focused on software company acquisitions. Operating from their modern studio space, the company combines creative excellence with strategic business expansion. This role, while housed within the company's organizational structure, focuses entirely on the investment expansion initiatives.

This position is crucial for identifying and evaluating potential software company acquisition targets. The Investment Research Analyst will conduct comprehensive market research, analyze financial data, and help build relationships with potential sellers. This role supports the company's mission to facilitate successful business transitions while preserving company legacies and protecting employee interests.

The Impact you’ll make

Market Research & Analysis 
  • Research small software companies for potential acquisition
  • Analyze company financials and operational metrics
  • Create detailed company profiles and valuations
  • Develop financial models for potential acquisitions
Data Management & Reporting 
  • Maintain and update Notion database with company information
  • Create comprehensive financial presentations
  • Generate detailed reports on revenue and profitability
  • Analyze employee structure and operational costs
Relationship Building 
  • Discuss founder legacy preservation
  • Address employee protection concerns
  • Outline post-buyout relationships
  • Build trust with potential sellers
Financial Analysis & Validation 
  • Conduct thorough financial validation
  • Develop detailed business valuations
  • Perform due diligence assessments
  • Create financial modeling presentations
Prospect Communication 
  • Develop personalized email marketing sequences
  • Conduct outreach to company owners/founders
  • Discuss potential buyout opportunities
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required:
  • Background in investment banking or private equity
  • Big Four consulting experience preferred
  • Transaction management expertise
  • Financial modeling and validation experience
  • Strong market research capabilities
  • Business valuation and due diligence experience
  • Data analysis and presentation skills
  • WFH Set-Up:
    • Computer with at least 8GB RAM, an Intel i5 core processor/AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and up.
    • Internet speed of at least 40MBPS
    • Headset with an extended mic that has noise cancellation and a webcam
    • Back-up computer and internet connection
    • Quiet, dedicated workspace at home

What to expect...

Work Setup:
  • Remote position
  • Must have a reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace
  • Required to provide own computer with Intel Core i5 or something similar or higher operating system
Working Hours:
  • Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM CST (Central Standard Time)
  • Initial Phase: Full-time (40 hours/week) for market research
  • Second Phase: Transition to 20 hour
