Job Description
Basic Purpose
The RN Infection Preventionist/Wound Care Manager is a working RN clinical manager responsible for leading the facility’s infection prevention and control program and wound care program while maintaining an active direct-care role. The position performs required RN-level wound and skin assessments, infection surveillance, clinical rounding, phlebotomy, education, quality improvement, and other RN-level clinical support as needed.
The IP/WC RN Manager is responsible for timely identification and escalation of infection and wound-related risks, accurate clinical documentation and reporting, regulatory compliance, resident safety, quality outcomes, and ongoing survey readiness.
Typical Functions
This position is not limited to administrative or program oversight. The IP/WC RN Manager is expected to provide hands-on resident care within the RN scope of practice, including:
Performs required weekly RN wound assessments and wound rounds.
Completing required admission and readmission skin assessments.
Assessing all new, worsening, or clinically significant wounds or skin concerns requiring RN evaluation.
Validating wound measurements, staging/classification, treatment response, and RN-level wound documentation.
Performing wound treatments and providing wound/treatment nurse coverage as needed.
Performing phlebotomy and other laboratory collections as needed.
Providing medication administration, treatment coverage, and other RN-level clinical support when assigned to maintain safe resident care.
Plans, organizes and directs health services for an assigned program, unit, facility, hospital or geographical area; insures that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to patients and clients. Selects, mentors, motivates and directs development and evaluation of the staff; establishes and tracks quality improvement indicators and other information concerning services and care to insure that resources are available to provide quality services and on-time performance consistent with standards; may devise health related educational programs for professional and non-professional staff.
Participates, consults and collaborates in the development of long-range plans for health care programs; may interpret and communicate agency and departmental policies and procedures; establishes areas of responsibility and assignment; develops or implements policies and procedures to insure efficient and effective delivery of health services. Receives, analyzes and evaluates reports and other information and coordinates quality improvement activities concerning the care of patients, equipment, environmental health and safety conditions, and other related services in improving the quality and utilization of health care. Develops budget estimates or other information concerning financial requirements; approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to insure compliance with budget guidelines and effective delivery of services.
Performs other related duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position and agency operations.
