Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). MSTS Industrial Hygiene is looking for a high performing individual with attention to detail to provide industrial hygiene support to underground, construction and other fieldwork as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Industrial Hygiene program for operations. This includes construction, maintenance, and experimentation activities during day and back/swing shift operations.
- Maintain, operate, and ensure calibration of a variety of sampling and monitoring equipment.
- Position involves indoor work in an office setting and outdoor work in construction areas, activities in extreme temperatures, work in chemical protective clothing, work in construction areas including underground areas, and in nuclear facilities, and work with employees in all levels and professions.
- Conduct IH work as required by project and direction from Senior Industrial Hygienist to characterize work areas and release items.
- Observe and document work activities.
- Participate in the Industrial Hygiene Technician Qualification Program.
- Accept individual responsibility and accountability of environment, safety, health, and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of coworkers.
- Provide industrial hygiene support to Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) employees, supervisors and managers in areas assigned. Assignments include but are not limited to performing industrial hygiene monitoring in underground locations, assisting Industrial Hygienists collecting samples, and maintaining respiratory protection.
- Track, enter, and maintain IH records in the Open Range database, including Exposure Assessments, Health Hazard Evaluations, Hot Work Permits, and equipment calibration data.
- Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations.
- Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision.
- Participate in MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
- Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 7 years’ progressive related experience.
Must be fitted for and qualify for use with various respiratory protection and personal protective equipment.
Must have:
Planning/organizing skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to follow directions, both written and verbal, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
Willingness to support both day and back/swing shift operations as necessary
Ability to working in underground environments and tunnels without being claustrophobic
Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office suite and data management software.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday. (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
