Description
Neel Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced and compassionate Emergency & Critical Care Surgical Veterinary Assistant to join our growing emergency and specialty team. This position is ideal for a veterinary assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about emergency medicine, critical care, and surgical patient support.As part of our Emergency & Critical Care team, you will assist veterinarians and credentialed technicians with emergency procedures, surgical preparation, patient monitoring, and hands-on nursing care. We are looking for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional patient care and client service.
This is an excellent opportunity for veterinary assistants looking to expand their skills in emergency veterinary medicine and surgery while working alongside an experienced and collaborative team.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency and surgical procedures
- Prepare patients for surgery, including restraint, clipping, and surgical prep
- Monitor anesthesia during procedures and assist with patient recovery
- Intubate and extubate surgical patients
- Place IV catheters and perform blood draws
- Maintain sterile surgical fields and follow sterilization protocols
- Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients
- Assist with diagnostics, radiographs, and laboratory sample collection
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs
- Clean, stock, and maintain ICU, treatment, and surgical areas
- Provide compassionate nursing care and patient handling
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous Veterinary Assistant experience required
- Must be familiar with surgical protocols and procedures
- Experience monitoring anesthesia required
- Ability to intubate and extubate patients
- Experience placing IV catheters and performing blood draws
- Knowledge of sterilization procedures and surgical instrument handling
- Emergency, ICU, or specialty veterinary experience preferred
- Strong multitasking and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
