The NF Recovery Maintenance Supervisor (NFRMS) reports to the NF Recovery Manager (NFRM) and oversees the day-to-day activities associated with maintenance, preventative maintenance, NF Recovery projects and maintenance personnel. They assign daily duties for maintenance personnel in this department. The NFRMS may assist the NFRM, Shredder Manager, Terminal Manager, Maintenance Manager, Environmental Manager, Health & Safety Manager/Specialist and facility and regional Commercial teams with issues pertaining to optimizing physical plant operations. The NFRMS maintains a safe work environment and assists the Health & Safety Manager/Specialist in training employees on safety procedures.
This position operates within somewhat flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of NF Recovery Maintenance. Ensuring that the NF Recovery Department provides the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increases profits, as a direct result of maintaining an outstanding maintenance program. Responsibilities are to ensure that maintenance compliance is maintained according to state and company regulations. Continuous process analysis and improvement is required to ensure maximum efficient metal recovery which is measured daily.
Essential Functions:
- Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
- Ensures safe work practices and equipment are always used and that documentation, inspections, and current practices are in accordance with corporate safety policies, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines. In addition, provides a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
- Creates Health & Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) with Health & Safety Manager/Specialist
- Ensures all maintenance department employees receive timely safety and operational training and that the appropriate documents (signed acknowledgement forms) are prepared. Maintains employee files per regional practice.
- Assigns an employee to be on the Safety Committee and personally attends Safety Committee meetings on rotation with other managers.
- Participates in the safety program to reduce accident frequency within department, implements new departmental safety ideas/procedures in line with overall Health & Safety goals.
- Responsible for understanding and monitoring the regulatory environment as it affects this department and the Company’s relationship with the regulatory agencies.
- Equipment & Maintenance
- Oversees and implements the daily NF Recovery preventative maintenance and general maintenance plan and ensures that all equipment is operated and maintained properly.
- Prepares the scheduling for general maintenance and major projects to the NF Recovery Plant including manpower, equipment, downtime, and timeline.
- Communicates findings, recommendations, maintenance plans, issues, and concerns directly to the NF Recovery Manager.
- Follows up with the Maintenance Manager and their team to ensure NF Recovery equipment is serviced and maintained.
- Review Daily Equipment Inspection Sheets (DEIs) daily to ensure items noted are addressed and resolved.
- Inventory & Quality Control
- Purchases parts necessary to maintain proper functioning of the NF Recovery Plant
- Conducts parts inventory on a weekly basis and ensures that critical spare parts are on hand if needed.
- Foster and maintain professional relationships with outside vendors.
- Monitors daily production reports to continuously improve throughput, reduce costs/expenses; increase profitability and maximize metal recovery.
- Administrative Management
- Reviews performance of direct reports.
- Interviews prospective maintenance employees.
- Weekly audit of direct report employee timecards; Kronos experience preferred
- Working knowledge, previous experience with MS Office (specifically Excel)
- Formally meets with the NFRM once a week to discuss maintenance and personnel topics.
- Sends out daily maintenance report to the NFRM.
Internal Control Responsibilities:
Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.
Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position directly supervises a group of employees on up to 3 shifts.
