Position: Director of Human Resources
Salary: Negotiable
Location: Gaming Division
Reports to: Casino GM
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Human Resources team, providing direction and support to ensure optimal departmental performance and strategies.
- Establish strong working relationships with employees at all levels, addressing job-related issues, organizational policies, performance standards, and conflict resolution.
- Develop and maintain competitive compensation structures; conduct annual reviews to ensure alignment with industry and regional standards.
- Oversee the internal performance evaluation systems, ensuring consistency with policies and effective performance reviews.
- Contribute as a member of the executive management team, providing strategic leadership and direction.
- Analyze and enhance performance evaluation programs, including job descriptions, salary surveys, and position classifications.
- Review and update employee assistance programs, including policies related to drug testing, to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain employee manuals and HR policies that meet Tribal and industry regulations.
- Oversee workers' compensation, safety programs, and unemployment insurance claims.
- Collaborating with benefits team as needed on retirement benefits, including 401k and deferred compensation, working with employees, the 401k committee, and third-party vendors.
- Act as the primary liaison with government agencies for employment regulatory compliance.
- Represent the Tribe in hearings or proceedings related to unemployment and workers’ compensation when necessary.
- Compile and distribute periodic HR management reports.
- Collaborate with executive management and operations managers to address recruitment, employee training, development, and retention needs.
- Stay updated on legislative changes and trends in employment law, FMLA, OSHA, health benefits, and mediation.
- Attend job-related meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Adhere to Tribal laws, Gaming Ordinances, and all applicable regulations.
- Perform other duties assigned by the General Manager based on organizational needs.
Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management and/or Business or a related field is required.
- MBA or Master in HR Management or Business Management or related field is preferred.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience in a decision-level management role.
- Minimum of 4 years as a Human Resource Manager/Director in an organization with 400+ employees.
- Proven ability to lead and develop HR staff, with strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Experience with gaming and Tribal government environments is desirable, not required.
- Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational development, policy writing, employee relations, and safety preferred.
- Knowledge of 401k investing, audits, and other benefits and filings highly recommended.
- Broad expertise in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, and training.
- Membership in SHRM preferred, not required.
- Valid driver’s license; must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days if currently out-of-state.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Mohican Nation Gaming License and pass background requirements.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
- Commitment to maintaining an ethical, nonsmoking and drug-free workplace.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to walk, sit, stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with arms, talk and hear.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (25) pounds on a regular basis.
- Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Evening and/or weekend work as needed.
- The work environment is nonsmoking; dust and noise levels may vary depending upon location.
