Schedule & Coverage:

Per Diem, 7:00AM-3:30PM, Working between Corning and Bath locations, 1-2 Days a week

Position Summary

General clerical functions to include (but not limited to): receiving, screening and processing of phone calls and/or patients/visitors. Coordination and filing of records and reports; performs duties involving the operation of equipment necessary in developing x-ray film, financial or medical necessity checking and review, updating various financial documents or forms, including charge entry, and assists in other non-technical departmental duties as assigned.

Various computer functions including (but not limited to): EPIC, PACS, and multiple Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Percentage of time spent on each component directly depends on departmental needs.

Education, License & Certification

High school graduate. Post-high school work in the secretarial sciences is desirable.

Working knowledge of medical terminology required, with a medical terminology course preferred. Proficiency with computer office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Must possess an abiding commitment to basic ethical and legal principles, including familiarity with HIPAA and protected health information. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all customers in order to interact effectively with employees, patients, medical staff, and the public. Competency in keyboarding with the ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

Experience

Previous hospital or medical office experience required, preferably in a hospital laboratory or radiology setting.

Essential Functions

  2. Provides patient and family education on specific requirements of procedures and/or tests.
    • Effectiveness of education measured by peer input, family verbal feedback, and patient satisfaction surveys.
    • Favorable attitudes and motivation toward the procedure/test are evidenced by positive patient satisfaction surveys.
    • Educational methods are adapted to meet patient and family educational needs.
  3. Adheres to policies and practices of applicable entity facilities and Corning Hospital Laboratory & Radiology Department-specific policies while remaining familiar with and acting according to applicable professional codes, the employee handbook, unit policies and procedures, and hospital policies.
  4. Participates in department meetings by attending and offering ideas and solutions in problem-solving situations and activities regarding the program.
  5. Completes assigned tasks and other duties as requested.

Other Duties

  1. Coordinates file management processes involving all modalities within the Radiology Department. This includes, but is not limited to, scanning, purging, digitizing, importing images, burning CDs, and transporting films/CDs.
  2. Schedules patients within the Radiology and Laboratory Departments, including viewing and printing schedules.
  3. Responsible for preparing and distributing all mail and correspondence for the outpatient Laboratory and Radiology Departments.
  4. Maintains daily laboratory order files and follows up on standing orders, oral requests, advance requests, and missing information, including diagnoses and/or signatures.
  5. Responsible for daily departmental functions such as faxing, filing, scanning, copying, and answering/directing phone calls.
