Proskauer is seeking a highly motivated and strategic individual to join and support the business development efforts of the Firm’s nationally recognized Labor & Employment practice. This individual will serve as a key business partner, working closely with lawyers across offices to develop, execute, and enhance marketing and client development strategies.

Proskauer’s Labor & Employment practice is among the most respected in the nation, representing employers in their most complex and high-profile workplace matters. The team advises on all facets of labor relations, employment counseling, litigation, investigations, and workplace policies, serving clients across industries and jurisdictions with a combination of deep subject-matter expertise and practical business insight.

The Business Development Manager will collaborate closely with practice leadership and partners to develop and execute initiatives that drive revenue and strengthen client relationships. This includes leading the preparation of strategic pitches and RFPs, coordinating the practice’s participation in conferences and high-impact events, and developing programs that enhance visibility, showcase thought leadership, and expand the firm’s client base. The Manager will play a central role in identifying and pursuing opportunities to grow existing relationships and generate new business across the Labor & Employment practice.

Strategic Planning and Business Growth

  • Develop and execute business development strategies for assigned practice areas within the Labor and Employment group to support firm-wide goals and priorities.
  • Lead regular practice group meetings, setting agendas, preparing materials, and managing follow-up actions.
  • Identify and analyze new business opportunities, client growth areas, and cross-selling initiatives across practices and industries.
  • Consult with attorneys to create, implement, and monitor individual business development plans that align with group and firm strategy.
  • Support lateral partner integration.
  • Support additional practices as business needs require.

Client Targeting and Relationship Management

  • Lead and manage client targeting programs, including identifying prospects, tracking pursuits, and reporting on outcomes.
  • Partner with the Competitive Intelligence team to research clients, competitors, and market developments to uncover new opportunities and enhance client service.
  • Facilitate cross-selling initiatives and support relationship-building strategies for key clients and prospects.

Pitches, Proposals, and Marketing Materials

  • Oversee and execute the preparation and delivery of high-quality RFP responses, pitches, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and business development and marketing colleagues to create and maintain relevant collateral, including practice descriptions, brochures, and capability presentations.

Events, Sponsorships, and Thought Leadership

  • Manage the business development planning and preparation of client-facing events, including receptions, webinars, and substantive programs, and track ROI.
  • Identify and coordinate firm participation in strategic sponsorships, conferences, and professional associations that enhance practice and attorney visibility.
  • Partner with the Marketing team to generate content for award submissions, legal directories, and league rankings.

Team Leadership

  • Serve as a resource and mentor to other business development professionals, offering guidance and sharing expertise to support their professional growth and skill development.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience required; prior law firm business development experience a plus, as is experience in Labor and Employment 
  • Practical professional services experience in a marketing or business development function is required
