Job Summary
The University of Chicago Research Computing Center (RCC) is seeking a highly motivated Research Data Scientist & Service Delivery Manager to support faculty, post-docs, and graduate students on using high-end computing for their research projects. The person in this position will primarily coordinate the RCC level 1 support services and will also work on projects spanning a variety of tasks from multiple disciplines. The person in this role will also mentor and manage a team of talented UChicago students who assist with user and project support. The scientists will work with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of computational scientists, machine learning scientists, and application developers. Working as part of an existing team at the RCC, the successful candidate will have ample opportunity to contribute to enabling science at UChicago.
This is a hybrid position requiring at least 3 days a week onsite.
Responsibilities
Work closely with faculty to identify, proactively propose and execute solutions to support or advance their research.
Independently propose and execute practical solutions to various research challenges.
Solves user problems promptly and professionally.
Create and maintain a knowledge base and technical documentation to ensure consistent and high-quality user support.
Hire, train, and manage a team of talented students.
Develop, install, and test scientific software in support of research goals.
Develop documentation best practices and tools that can be used by others.
Develops and presents technical training materials and web-based documentation. Ensures timely systems support and updates. Assists in conducting information security assessments and risk analysis of computing environment.
Evaluates past and present technologies to help develop new tools. Ensures all the new tools have been through quality control reviews.
Perform other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or similar field.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficiency in a scripting language such as Python.
Experience in a Unix/Linux-based environment.
Excellent oral and written English communication and inter-personal skills.
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
Ability to work well with faculty and researchers.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. C++, C, etc.) strongly preferred.
