 We are seeking a Railroad Derailment Laborer to assist in the recovery and cleanup of train derailments, ensuring that the site is cleared quickly and efficiently. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Site Preparation and Safety:
   • Assist in securing and setting up the derailment site to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
   • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like helmets, gloves, and high-visibility vests.
   • Conduct site assessments for hazards such as fuel spills, fire risks, or electrical issues.
   • Establish safe working zones and assist with securing rail traffic around the area.
2. Recovery and Cleanup:
   • Help in the removal of derailed cars, debris, and damaged infrastructure.
   • Operate basic equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, or winches to move and reposition railcars.
   • Work with the team to re-align and rerail trains.
   • Assist in cleaning up hazardous materials or spills, ensuring the area is properly sanitized and safe.
3. Manual Labor:
   • Lift, move, and carry heavy materials such as rails, ties, and other debris.
   • Perform general labor tasks such as digging, shoveling, and clearing areas for equipment access.
   • Help with maintaining the equipment and tools used during the recovery process.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
   • Work closely with other workers, such as engineers, crane operators, and safety officers, to ensure the operation runs smoothly.
   • Report any safety concerns or issues to supervisors or team leaders.
   • Follow instructions from senior workers or management in an emergency or high-pressure environment.
5. Post-Cleanup Tasks:
   • Ensure all equipment and materials are properly stored after the job is completed.
   • Document any damages or additional needs for future repairs.
   • Conduct final safety checks to ensure the area is clear and secure before returning to service.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects, and standing for extended periods.
• Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety procedures, including working in hazardous environments and the handling of dangerous materials.
• Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with a diverse team in a high-pressure situation.
• Equipment Handling: Basic knowledge of hand tools, machinery, and equipment used in derailment recovery.
• Problem Solving: Ability to adapt and help solve issues as they arise during derailment recovery.
• Experience: Prior experience in railroad operations, construction, or heavy labor preferred, but on-the-job training is often provided.
• Certification: May require certification in railroad operations, hazardous materials handling, or first aid, depending on company and location.

Work Environment:

• Work is typically done outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
• The environment can be hazardous due to the nature of derailment sites, with risks from damaged tracks, trains, or hazardous materials.

Schedule:

• Irregular working hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as railroad derailments can happen at any time.
• Extended shifts may be required to assist in quick recovery and minimize service disruptions.
