Description
The Associate Director of Clinical Education is a member of the faculty (rank commensurate with experience) who also holds an administrative appointment related to managing specific aspects of the clinical phase of the Physician Associate Program. The Associate Director of Clinical Education is expected to provide leadership to effectively meet program and student learning outcomes in the program's clinical phase. The Associate Director of Clinical Education will work with the Program Director, the Associate Dean for PA Education, and other PA faculty members to ensure that the program complies with all ARC-PA accreditation standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative
· In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Education, assists in curriculum development which includes design, scheduling, and rollout of the clinical phase of the program to meet student learning outcomes and competencies.
· Assists in the development and maintenance of clinical sites.
· Establish and maintain relationships with clinical sites and preceptors.
· Conduct regular site visits to ensure compliance with program standards and accreditation requirements.
· Assists/contributes to ongoing curriculum evaluation and improvement.
· Assists with admissions process, including essay review, interviews, and student selection.
· Analyzes curriculum for compliance with ARC-PA standards, identify strengths and areas in need of improvements.
· Assists with teaching and instruction in the curriculum.
· Assists with the design, coordination, and evaluation of the program and curriculum.
· Participates in committees in the PA Program, the Yale School of Medicine and externally based on program needs and/or individual interests.
· Develops assessments of students.
· Uses and has ability to learn and work within multiple technological platforms including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Exxat, and Teams.
· Serves as academic advisor to a subset of students in each cohort.
Educational
· Lectures or facilitates instruction in areas of professional or clinical expertise.
· Course Director for at least one course per semester.
· Facilitates classroom or small group teaching sessions.
· Evaluates student performance and provides feedback to students.
· Identifies students at academic risk and provides remediation to students as needed.
Clinical
· Works clinically in a desired area of practice at 0.2FTE at Yale University, Yale New Haven Health System, or their affiliates.
· Maintains licensure to practice in the state of CT.
· Maintains hospital privileges and credentials if necessary for clinical practice.
· Holds Federal and State of CT Controlled Substances registration.
Miscellaneous
· Maintains a record of ongoing scholarly activities and faculty development.
· Participates in community service activities.
· Participates in and supports program initiatives aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion among students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders, through collaborative efforts and community building activities.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Associate Dean for PA Education.
Supervisor
· Reports to the Program Director.
Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a health related or educational field
If a Physician Assistant
· Must be a graduate of an accredited physician assistant program
· Must have current NCCPA certification
· Must hold or be eligible for a PA license in the state of CT
If not a Physician Assistant
· If MD/DO
