Job Summary:This position performs administrative and professional engineering work in planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the work of the Safety Planning and Programs Team within the Traffic Safety Section. It manages the Safety Programs and Planning Team’s administrative budget and the federally mandated Highway Safety Improvement Programs' (HSIP) lump sum safety budget. This team is required to identify high accident locations and develop safety improvement projects to be included in the five year plan. Project scopes are moderately complex and often require significant coordination. Additional staff activities include the establishment of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan, the Active Transportation Safety Action Plan and the Safety Circuit Rider Program. This position also manages the Roadway Safety Assessment program manager. This position will conduct multiple presentations as well as community outreach and/or public forums. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:Provides engineering and technical direction for the administration of multiple, moderately complex, design projects or contracts to ensure work is
performed in a manner that provides a functional, durable project that meets the design intent at a reasonable cost.
Prepare and administer the HSIP budget. Identify resource needs and allocate resources in order to meet funding priorities. Establish and monitor schedules of various projects. Oversee the administration of consultant contracts, task orders and review submittals for compliance.
Coordinate activities and initiate communication with Federal, State, local and private entities to assure conflicts are minimized and the public is well served.
Initiate and monitor safety work processes to assure risk to employees, contractors and the public are minimized.
Provide input on project scopes and designs to represent the best interest of the State in project development meetings and other meetings related to the
State Highway System. May drive a vehicle in the course and scope of State business.
Provide leadership, coaching and supervision of subordinate personnel to enhance the quality of the product, service to the customer, and assure compliance with all applicable plans, specifications, rules and requirements.
Initiate and monitor training activities of subordinate personnel to assure competent, effective, motivated and fully knowledgeable workforce is available to provide quality products in conformance with all laws, rules, regulations, engineering principles/practices and quality standards.
Conduct presentations to internal and external stakeholders as well as hold public meetings and town hall sessions.

-Knowledge of transportation safety including Enforcement, Education, and Engineering.
