HSE Director – Southern Operations
We are searching for an inspiring and results oriented professional to lead our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Southern team as a Business Partner with our Operations Leadership Team. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to influence and coach at all levels, collaborate, and build strong teams, and deliver world class performance, while partnering closely with operations and engineering teams to ensure aligned HSE priorities and implementation. This role will be based out of our office in The Woodlands, TX.
Responsibilities:
- Proven leadership experience in leading technical HSE teams and working knowledge of typical HSE related functional expertise to include Air Quality, Environmental, Health, Personal and Process Safety and Emergency Response and Crisis Management
- Excellent communicator and innovative leader with the ability to prioritize, build relationships and develop top talent.
- Leveraging best practices already present in the company to ensure consistent application across the region, while also bringing new practices and technology into the organization to elevate performance.
- Working with the existing team of professionals and supplementing, where appropriate, develop the group into a collaborative and innovative team focused on continuous improvement and HSE Excellence.
- Serve as a conduit between the Operations Leadership Team and Field Operation staff, giving employees a voice and ownership that permeates through the region.
- Effect meaningful change within the HSE organization, leading a transformation of trust and transparency, while partnering with Operations and Engineering.
- Fostering a culture which supports best-in-class HSE performance; work to influence the broader leadership such that this is instilled and embedded across the business unit.
- Working closely and business partnering with Operations teams to ensure HSE strategy is defined, communicated, and implemented.
- Develop improvement road maps and key leading indicators to track and communicate progress against plan.
- Identifying improvement opportunities within HSE practices and procedures to ensure compliance, employee safety and manage risk.
- Overseeing change management and adoption of HSE culture throughout the region.
- Ensuring the organization has the talent and leadership necessary to implement and sustain a best-in-class function and succession planning.
- Ensuring that HSE activities within the organization are performed in accordance with internal and external requirements.
- Works in collaboration with Operations to provide assurance and expectations for third party contractor HSE and Operations Integrity Programs; works to ensure that all bid and contract documents reflect Western’s HSE and Operations Integrity requirements.
- Responsible for the continuous development of policies, practices, and procedures and for ensuring these are effectively implemented in the organization. Ultimately responsible for ensuring an effective workplace Safety program and culture in place within the region, building on Western’s existing HSE procedures.

- Ensures compliance with HSE programs and government regulations, tracks compliance performance and evaluates program effectiveness.
- Manages multiple functions within the regional team, with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employee development.
Qualifications:
- 15 years’ experience in leading HSE teams
- Bachelor’s degree/ masters in engineering, HSE, or environmental science related field preferred
- Site, multi-site, regional and corporate leadership experience working closely with operations and engineering.
- Operations or manufacturing experience
- Outstanding human relations influencing know-how to understand, and motivate people to successfully attain desired results, often working through influencing and indirect authority.

Travel Requirements:
Minimum travel of 25% will be required.
Work Schedule:
This position follows a hybrid schedule, working in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday while working remotely on Wednesday and Friday. Monday-Thursday is 9 hours, and Fridays are 4 hours.
