About the role

The Alternative Investments Team provides accounting, pricing, and reconciliation services for our alternative investment fund clients. This group is a growing team that continues to add to our client portfolio. With additional clients and the evolution of client needs comes the opportunity to grow our knowledge base and expand our technological capabilities.

As the Tax Accountant Senior – Alternative Investments, you will support UMB by reviewing tax work papers and filings completed by Tax Accountant I, II, and III.  There will also be some preparation of tax work papers and filings asked of this position. 

How you will spend your time:

  • Performs first review of all tax work papers, filings, deliverables, and all necessary supporting tax schedules (such as securities analysis, PFIC and foreign currency analysis, etc.). prepared by junior level tax accounting staff, while ensuring that all tax filings are accurately prepared and filed in a timely manner
  • Researches and analyzes a wide range of tax issues related to business transactions and tax implications of various fund clients including tax planning responsibilities.
  • Reviews a variety of tax issues for clients ranging from tax planning, restructuring, research, audit defense, and writing memorandums.
  • Examines accounts and records and computes taxes owed according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations.
  • Ensures that clients are informed of tax reporting requirements.
  • Helps improve compliance with taxing entities while maintaining each client’s overall tax exposure profile.
  • Works closely with client to understand goals and strategies and how industry and economic trends affect their business.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of tax accounting requirements for funds; meets client tax related deliverables.
  • Actively contributes ideas to enhance departmental functions and strengthen policies and procedures.
  • Advises client regarding effects of business activities on taxes and on strategies for minimizing tax liability.
  • Prepare and/or review miscellaneous filings (i.e., Forms SS 4, W 9, Forms 1099 MISC, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • You have 5 years of tax accounting experience

Bonus points if:

  • You have tax experience within the Alternative Investment Industry

Compensation Range:

Minimum: $57,760.00 - Maximum: $149,000.00

The posted compensation range on this listing represents UMB’s standard for this role, but the actual compensation may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors.
