The purpose of this job is to assist in the ongoing development of the Underwriting Audit function and perform day-to-day work to evaluate processes and controls for all Argo Group US underwriting business activities.
The role will work onsite (5 days per week) at one of our office locations: San Antonio, TX, Chicago, IL, New York City, NY, or Richmond, VA.
Responsibilities:
- Audit underwriting files to ensure compliance and adherence to:
- Authority statements.
- Underwriting Guidelines.
- Underwriting processes/best practices.
- Contractual obligations with our partner carriers.
- Participate in special projects and assist other corporate departments as necessary.
- Review trade publications, maintain related manuals, and participate in meetings to stay informed about business unit and industry developments.
- Participate in annual departmental planning meetings and other meetings, as necessary.
- Perform other specific duties and projects as assigned by leadership.
- Pursue personal and professional development by completing educational and departmental goals.
- Participate in quality underwriting audit execution, including conducting audits and providing feedback and recommendations.
- Participate in calibrating audit events to ensure consistent execution across the quality team.
- Develop recommendations to improve business processes based on observations and audit data trends.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of underwriting experience with an Excess & Surplus or Property & Casualty Insurance Carrier.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in claims, compliance, or knowledge of multiple insurance lines.
- Background in specialty lines of business such as Inland Marine, Workers Comp, and/or Garage Liability.
- 4-year Degree from an accredited University.
- Insurance certificates and designations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Forms.
- A high degree of discipline and self-motivation while doing detailed audit work.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and a high degree of interpersonal effectiveness with a demonstrated ability to articulate review findings and case for change to leaders across various profit centers.
