Job Duties

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is one of 12 inpatient facilities operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

The Central Medical Equipment and Supply Specialist ensures safe, reliable, and readily available medical equipment and supplies throughout the facility by performing inventory management, decontamination and sterilization support, equipment inspection and distribution, and timely coordination of purchasing and repairs to meet quality, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.

Minimum Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working in a hospital sterile processing, central supply, or similar regulated environment.
- Familiarity with hospital accreditation and regulatory expectations (for example, TJC and CMS) and how documentation supports compliance.
- Comfort using inventory systems, equipment tracking logs, and basic data entry tools with attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and respond calmly to urgent equipment needs while maintaining infection prevention standards.
- Understanding of supply chain basics (par levels, recalls, backorders, substitutions) and proactive communication of constraints.
- Demonstrated customer service mindset with clinical teams and the ability to de-escalate concerns professionally.
- Awareness of ergonomics and safe material handling practices, including use of appropriate PPE.
