The Position
The Scientist will provide technical leadership in complex in vitro and in vivo workflows, identification and validation of new drug targets, advancing novel therapies, and developing technologies to accelerate scientific research. This will be achieved by coordinating multiple research activities involving cross-functional project teams to ensure achievement of key deliverables. The Scientist will represent the organization to the external scientific community through publication and presentation of research, and through the development, management, and leadership of external collaborations. The individual will be seen across the company as a method/subject expert for one or two technologies or area(s) of biology.
Relationships
This is a full-time position in the Obesity, Diabetes and MASH Therapeutic Area at Novo Nordisk located in Lexington, MA, USA.
Internal relationships include working closely with technical staff & other members of the scientific leadership team; regular collaborations with members of other research departments in Boston; & frequent interaction with project managers & other colleagues in Denmark, Oxford and Beijing. Individual may be responsible for indirect reports or contingent workers.
Individual will interact with external research collaborators, both academia- & industry-based.
Essential Functions
- Design and perform in vitro and in vivo experiments for target ID, validation and MoA in the area of obesity and diabetes.
- Evaluate novel biology, methodologies, and implement new assays and platforms for target validation and investigation of pharmacological MoA.
- Support and drive drug discovery projects (target, biology, or technology-related)
- Generate new target ideas/hypotheses and propose experiments to mature the idea and validate the hypotheses for decision making
- Analyze and interpret complex data, drive conclusions, and next step. Present data and recommendation for next steps to cross-functional project teams.
- Evaluate novel biology, methodologies, and implement new assays and platforms for target validation and investigation of pharmacological MoA.
- Author internal reports, protocols, patents, external publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at external scientific conferences
- Maintain a strong understanding of theoretical knowledge and a connection to the external scientific community through continuous evaluation of relevant literature.
- Experience with in silico analyses and large datasets is highly desired.
