Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Duke Department of Orthopaedics at Duke Orthopaedics Urgent Care locations to provide direct patient care services. The APP providing services in the urgent care is functioning with autonomy with physician support.

 

Duke urgent cares are open seven days a week with the providers having a rotating schedule. This includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients needing urgent orthopaedic care as well as subacute and chronic conditions.  The urgent care provider will also evaluate post-operative patients experiencing acute issues.
• Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies including advanced imaging.
• Formulation of a diagnosis and treatment plan with implementation of the plan with understanding by the patient.
• Education of learners rotating in the department and urgent care.
• Telephone support to the primary care clinics as well as primary care urgent care clinics.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers as needed.
• Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
• Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
• Refer orthopaedic urgent care patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
