In this role you will be responsible for data entry, Patient communication, Insurance rejections, etc. The hours for this role will be 7a-4p Monday - Friday, with no weekend expectations. Position Summary
The Pharmacy Support Specialist performs functions to obtain and process prescriptions to prepare the pharmacy fulfillment team to dispense and ship medications, while working within the limits of established policies.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides support to Pharmacists by entering prescription information, submitting claims for payment, and handling patient questions and concerns regarding medications and delivery.
Manage patient profiles including updating medication lists and any changes that are pertinent to the patient's medication regimen.
Assists in the prior authorization process to expedite prescription fulfillment. Provide support in benefits investigation for third party billing and adjudication.
Communicates by phone and email with patients, facilities, payors, and prescribers regarding issues concerning prescriptions and obtains proper authorizations and prescription details to refill prescriptions.
Gathers and documents demographics to be used to fill prescriptions as well as to coordinate billing of medications to be dispensed by the pharmacy.
Monitors and triages incoming faxes/documents to expedite processing of patient orders. Files, faxes, and copies of various materials as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsKey Skills
Proven experience as a highly effective communicator with internal and external customers; includes listening, speaking, understanding, and writing in English.
Excellent computer skills with proficiencies with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and pharmacy systems.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks or in a team setting while focused on detail, accuracy, and productivity.
Ability to track and monitor progress of workflows to maintain timely delivery of medications.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, medication names, and pharmacy sig codes.
Basic pharmacy billing knowledge.
Education/Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Certified Pharmacy Technician in the State of Maryland required.
Minimum of one year’s experience working in a pharmacy. Working knowledge of pharmacy sig codes, medications, and electronic claim submissions strongly preferred.
Familiarity with PioneerRx preferred.
