Sr. UI Engineer, VP

Who we are looking for

State Street seeks a highly motivated, versatile Senior UI Engineer to join our design team. State Street UI Engineers are responsible for developing complex user interface designs into highly functional and engaging digital experiences. Adept at bridging the gap between visual design and technical implementation and ensuring users interact with applications intuitively and effectively. You'll work closely with visual designers, product owners, and business owners across multiple areas to ensure that implemented designs accurately reflect the intended user experience, paying close attention to details that enhance user delight, interaction, and engagement.

This role is performed in a hybrid model. You can balance working from home and the office to meet your needs and role requirements.

What you will be responsible for

Design Implementation

• Transforming UI designs & prototypes (Figma) into functional code, ensuring fidelity to visual brand aesthetic and user flow
• Building interactive and scalable UI components using front-end solutions
• Creating responsive components and layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and devices

Coding & Development

• Writing clean, scalable, and well-documented code with high performance in mind
• Using modern front-end frameworks like React to structure complex applications
• Integrating APIs to fetch and display dynamic data using best practices
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of the State Street Design System and component libraries
• Implementing Typescript for type-safe and scalable code
• Conducting code reviews to ensure quality and consistency

User Experience Optimization

• Prioritizing usability and accessibility in development by following WCAG/EAA guidelines
• Testing and iteration on UI designs to ensure smooth user interactions
• Assisting in monitoring user behavior and implementing data-driven improvements

Collaboration and Communication

• Partnering with developers and designers to deeply understand design intent to deliver an optimal user-friendly experience
• Collaborating with back-end developers to understand data availability, integration opportunities, and functionality
• Communicating design & development decisions and technical constraints to stakeholders
• Guide and mentor junior developers on best practices, coding standards, and UI development techniques

Education & Preferred Qualifications

These skills will help you succeed in this role

• 5+ years industry experience in UI development, proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript: Deep understanding of React and core web technologies is crucial
• Front-end framework expertise: Familiarity with Angular, or Vue.js for building complex applications
• Highly proficient in testing & debugging to identify and resolve issues within the user interface
• Demonstrates a high level of client focus, service-mindset, and ownership; running to problems and accountability as we escort designs from concept to production
• Keeping abreast of emerging front-end technologies, frameworks, and design trends
• Exploring new libraries and tools to enhance user experience and performance

Additional optional requirements

• Financial services experience: Understanding of banking, investment management, or institutional financial services products and their unique interface requirements.
• Advanced technical skills: Experience with TypeScript, modern build tools (Webpack, Vite), and state management solutions. (Redux, Context API)
• Design system expertise: Experience building and maintaining component libraries and design systems at scale.
• Performance optimization: Knowledge of web performance best practices, code splitting, and optimization techniques for data-heavy applications.
• Accessibility leadership: Advanced understanding of inclusive design principles and experience implementing comprehensive accessibility solutions.
