Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.
The Lab Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and operational support for the day-to-day basis of the reference laboratory at Moses. Ensures the highest quality of patient care while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements. maintains and reviews staff performances, interactions and quality of work. Also responsible for enforcing compliance with any regulatory agencies’ requirements, The individual is responsible and expected to resolve any issues brought up by staff, acts as an active liaison between the laboratory and the clinical staff, (Clinicians, RN's etc.) and have open lines of communication with supervisors, managers and site directors, administration and others as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee reference lab send-out activities and provide support for to staff managers and supervisors. Evaluate staff for competency and performance
• Supervise staff as needed by maintaining task schedule and calendar. Ensure appropriate staffing at all times. Oversee the daily operations of the lab in accordance with department goals and objective. Train staff according and communicate all and new changes
• Interact with all departments on matters relating to receipt of samples and TAT for all clinical laboratory test. Troubleshoot missing reports, orders and problem logs and failed transmitted test
• Ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures, with federal, state and other regulatory agency mandates (JCAHO, NYSDOH, CAP). Provide administrative assistance for maintaining policies and procedures
• Work with other departments on projects that benefit the department; coordinate for ensuring operations run smoothly without impact to patient care. Work with Facilities on issues affecting laboratory operations and the workspace
• Promote a respectful work environment in accordance with Montefiore excellence standards of respect
• Ensure supplies and inventory are maintained. monitor orders, and assist with follow-ups and back orders. Provide all around department assistance
• Maintain time and attendance and guide staffing towards improvement and or issuance of corrective action for non-adherence
• Interact with department senior administration, provide necessary information, respond to requests, etc.
• Use the Laboratory Information System for performing routine work or look up data, investigate issues
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
• 5 + years of work experience required; laboratory field or medicine are highly preferred
• Strong MS Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint) skills are required for this position
• Familiarity with other software LIS, MIS and other third-party portals Prior experience in the laboratory field or medicine are highly preferred
• Excellent communication, organization, and people skills are required
This position is located in Pathology at the Moses campus in the Reference Lab.
