Principal Software Engineer

Job Summary:

Position will operate as a member of the Application Services team, responsible for developing advanced technology solutions to meet the current and growing demands of the Credit Union. Individual will be responsible for understanding, analyzing, and translating business needs and product requirements into technical solutions autonomously. Individual will engage and partner with stakeholders across the organization throughout the development, execution, and testing phases of assigned initiatives. Individual should elevate the skills and expertise of teammates as a technology leader working to improve the engineering processes and overall excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Work cross-functionally with product teams, project managers, business analysts, stakeholders, and other engineering teams to create fast, intuitive, stable, and easy to use software to meet the needs of the organization and our members.

Perform programming tasks according to established company, department, and project standards.  Continuously evaluate and facilitate updates to these standards as technology evolves.

Lead the analysis of program specifications for completeness and conformance to standards.

Designs, creates, and executes system integrated test plans and automation scripts to validate application functionality.

Lead the evaluation and improvement of department systems, processes, and applications. Provides new feature time estimates for system changes and assists in implementing modifications.

Implement new features, deliver prototypes, and troubleshoot bugs with a strong focus on security, automation, and modernization.

Collects data related to user requests and determines scope, time estimates, and system impacts. Inspects business and programming specifications, coding, test plans, documentation, and implementation plans for accuracy.

Expert at writing reliable, testable, maintainable, and performant code.

Performs code reviews, code merges, and design reviews with peers all while ensuring that secure coding techniques have been applied and that no potential security weaknesses, vulnerabilities, or exploits exist.

Serve as subject matter expert, contributing practitioner, thought leader, career guide and mentor to the team.

Strong experience working on and leading multiple projects simultaneously, with varied degrees of complexity and duration.

Perform review and refinement of the product backlog and assist with their prioritization.

Drive the evolution of our technology platforms and development standards to ensure that we deliver scalable software solutions to business requirements.

Stay up to date on the latest industry trends and technical advancements and push the envelope with innovative and creative thinking.

Responsible for complex involvement in the software development life cycle including the creation, enhancement, implementation, and evaluation of software. Serves as a technical resource for management, associates, and business units.

Participate in the evaluation and selection of key vendor relationships.  Provide timely and objective feedback and deliver guidance on the technical aspects.

Requirements:

Expert in a wide variety of industry-adopted programming languages.

Collaborative and team player attitude with excellent communication skills both written and oral.

Must adhere to the work schedule and attendance policy established by the manager.

Must be able to confidently interact with technical, non-technical, and management staff.

Ability to not only build technology solutions but explain your solution architecture and technology choices to enterprise Architects and senior leadership.

Proven ability to define and solve complex business problems, leveraging best in class technical solutions.

Experience developing for high availability and scalability.

Advanced skills in implementing Service APIs with the market leading API management tools and microservice based architecture, containers, and automation.

Experience assessing and managing technology and cyber security risks related to application, network, and infrastructure.

Extensive experience working with relational databases and large data sets.

Ability to lead and coordinate meetings and working sessions between assigned lines of business, Information Security, Legal, Compliance, and other various teams.

Extensive experience working in large, enterprise level programs/projects, preferably with a background in Financial Services.

Must be able to speak English fluently.
