About the role

What you need to know:

The Programs Team Leader is the Senior Program staff member responsible for the achievement of division and program specific business plan and overall profitability objectives for each assigned Program and Program Administrator. As a Program Team Leader, you will be expected to:

  • Manage one (1) or more assigned Program Managers
  • Oversee all PA negotiations including:
    • Annual business plan: including approving plans for rate, new business growth, and retention
    • Profit Sharing Agreement
  •  Monitor and ensure rating and pricing adequacy of the Program.
  •  Manage risk appetite and reinsurance (treaty and facultative) strategy within parameters set by Global Underwriting and Reinsurance Officers.
  • Implement, manage and ensure accuracy of aggregation strategy which has been set by the Program Division Head.
  • Participate in Underwriting Quality Reviews.
  • Oversee all Stewardship meetings for assigned Programs.
  • Identify products to round out existing portfolios and provide upsell opportunities, building incremental enhanced products for clients.
  • Incorporate data and analytics for use to closely manage all programs and position each to achieve their profitability objectives. 
  • Negotiate and manage profit sharing arrangements.
  • Review PM’s assessment of authority delegated by the Program Administrator to the underwriters assigned to our program(s)
  • Conduct due diligence / onboard new program opportunities. 
  • Conduct skill assessment and identify training needs for assigned Program Managers.  Ensure skill sets are updated on a regular basis to determine strengths and opportunities to increase knowledge by industry and LOB.
  • Perform bi-annual and annual staff performance reviews.  Identify & communicate any deficiencies, create development plans as necessary and implement. 
  • Relationship Management of one (1) or more Program Administrators including overall profitability of the Program Administrator and the underlying Program(s).
  • Work with Management at the PA, to identify training opportunities at the PA level to enhance their underwriting’s staff with respect to the line of business applicable to the Program to  by guide Program Administrators in their execution on risk selection, pricing, coverage terms and conditions in a manner that are aligned with authorities granted by AIG.
  • Work with the Product Line Officers, to address specific line of business challenges the Program may be experiencing to improve profitability
  • Identify trends in the program profiles, suggest & implement appropriate measures by LOB in order to protect the portfolio and AIG from adverse exposures.
  • Demonstrate understanding of changes occurring within the industry and how each LOB will be impacted through clearly articulated recommendations for actions during the account referral process.
  • Execute and manage Program Administrator underwriting authority through file reviews, UQR Audits and Stewardship meetings to ensure that AIG’s underwriting expectations are met and they are aligned with program business plans.
  • Handle account referrals that exceed the Program Manager’s & Program Administrator’s Authority, document and retain per Division requirements; identify PM training opportunities.
  • Participate in insurance & industry specific association training/meetings to enhance knowledge by class of business to stay current with industry specific market trends as it pertains to assigned Program(s) and attend joint participation in external conferences, trade shows, etc.
  • Collaborate with Actuarial, Accounting, Claims, Operations, Program Development, Risk Management and Underwriting as necessary.
  • Responsible for Budget and P&L for the assigned Program Portfolio to achieve target profitability.
  • Oversee the implementation of new programs assigned to you including coordination with Operations, IT and other non-program areas.
  • Work with the Product Development team to address needs for policy form enhancements, rule and rate changes identified and discussed with the Product Line Officers.
  • Develop and provide superior customer service and maintain strong working relationships with Program Administrator(s) to sustain profitability of their portfolio through regular on-site visits, conference calls, etc.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ Years of Commercial Underwriting Experience focused on Multi Line Package portfolio management, with strong working knowledge of core lines of business:  GL, Auto, Umbrella, Property.
  • Proven skills in each of the following areas:   Underwriting, Marketing, reinsurance, and Portfolio Management. 
  • Ability to manage both internal staff and external business partners using strong communication,
